St. Ambrose concedes a last minute goal in defeat at SXU

SAU and SXU seemed to play an even game throughout in a conference bout at Deaton Field in Chicago, Ill. Both sides played in stride as each team had ten total shots in the game. But, the score would be decided on the last shot for Saint Xavier, as they notched the game-winner in the last minute of play. St. Ambrose would drop the contest 1-0 after unfortunate timing.

Jenna Horst started for SAU with a shot in the first minute of play but it would sneak just wide. The Bees would look to build off this momentum.

St. Ambrose had a spout of high offensive pressure for a mere seven minute period. The Bees would not allow the Cougars out of their half as SAU would pepper the Cougars defense and keeper.

Still, the Bees could not muster up a goal to offset the deadlock. Both teams went into the locker room at 0-0.

In the final 45 minutes of play, the Bees would gather their best chance of the afternoon as Kaitlyn Brunson tried to sneak one past the Cougars' goal keeper. This would make contact with the post and have an unfavorable bounce to keep things tied.

Things would seem to turn for the Bees as a Saint Xavier player picked up their second yellow card of the match. This would allow the Bees to play one player up for the remainder of the match.

Brunson was involved in much of the offensive action as she tested the SXU goal keeper. But, the SXU back line and goal keeper would remain steadfast to keep things tied.

SXU would deliver a heartbreaker for SAU as they finished a shot with two seconds left in the match to take the 1-0 lead. The Bees would be unable to come back with such little time on the clock.

St. Ambrose had ten total shots and four total corner kicks.

Brunson earned seven shots, two being on net. Horst created two chances as Kendall Wendt accounted for one.

Grace Kuchar owned all 90 minutes between the pipes to earn five saves.

As the Bees look to turn things around, they will travel to Judson in Elgin, Ill. Kick off is slated for 1 p.m. on Tues., Oct. 1.
