Evans named to WPSL's Midwest Conference Heartland Division Best XI

WSPL Release

Senior midfielder Mary Evans was named to the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL) Midwest Conference Heartland Division Best XI for her time with the Quad Cities Rush this summer.

"It's wonderful for Mary to get this recognition from such a competitive league. The WPSL is the top amateur league in the country in the women's game and to stand out amongst so much top talent from around the country says a lot about Mary's level of play," said St. Ambrose head coach Jon Mannall

Evans became a fixture for the Fighting Bees in the 2021 season, starting 19 games. She helped SAU capture the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament championship which led to an appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. Evans has scored three goals and notched five assists so far in her career with St. Ambrose.

Mannall stated, "I feel that Mary has been underappreciated when it comes to accolades through her time here at SAU. She plays as a deep-lying midfielder constantly connecting the game with the ball and then disrupting the opposition without it. It's a role and a position that doesn't favor statistics but her contributions and work ethic are applauded by her teammates and staff alike. We all feel that Mary's senior season here will end like her summer season did, being recognized as one of the very best."

Evans has started all three games so far in 2022 for the Bees.
