Wahlen named NAIA Honorable Mention All-American

2021 NAIA Women's Soccer All-Americans

A three-time all-conference selection, Morgan Wahlen was named an Honorable Mention All-American by the NAIA on Wednesday. This is the program's first All-American since 2016 when Kayla Anderson earned the distinction. Wahlen finished with 42 goals and 100 points in her five seasons as a Fighting Bee, both ranking fifth all-time in the SAU record book.

She saved her best season for last, helping St. Ambrose to a CCAC tournament title and an NAIA tournament appearance with a team-leading 16 goals and six assists. Wahlen was 3-for-3 on penalty kicks and scored four game-winning goals in the 2021 season, earning her a first-team all-CCAC selection.

"Morgan is one of the best to ever do it in an Ambrose uniform," said head coach Jon Mannall. "I'm so happy she returned for another year and have the year that she had - leading the team in goals and ultimately leading our team to a conference championship and the national tournament."

Wahlen earned a first-team conference selection in 2020 as well, scoring a team-best nine goals in 15 games, including two goals in an upset win over then No. 9 Central Methodist University. In 2017, her first season at St. Ambrose, Wahlen was named the conference player of the week twice and earned second-team all-conference honors after producing seven goals and two assists.

"Morgan is one that simply leads by example, her consistency of high-level play in training and games is an inspiration to her teammates and coaches alike," stated Mannall.

The midfielder from Batavia, Ill. played in 90 matches during her Bee career, ranking her second all-time. St. Ambrose compiled a 57-31-6 record during Wahlen's five seasons.

"We expect a level of hard work, commitment, and ultimately quality. It's Morgan's quality that separates her and has raised her to this recognition," said Mannall. "Morgan will be missed and so will that sweet left foot!"
