Smothers named to CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Soccer Teams

Senior defender Erin Smothers was named to the 2021 Academic All-District Women's Soccer Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This is the first time since 2018 that St. Ambrose has had a CoSIDA Academic All-District selection in women's soccer.

The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Nominees must be starters or important reserves, sophomores or older, with at least 3.30 cumulative grade point averages.

Smothers was selected in District 3, which includes NAIA colleges from Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The Fighting Bee, from Countryside, Ill., has helped St. Ambrose to a 14-5-1 overall record and a spot in the Chicagoland Colligate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Tournament final. Smothers and the SAU defense have produced ten shutouts this season. She tallied one goal and added four assists during the fall campaign.

Smothers has been a fixture for the Bees since the moment she got on campus. She has started 89 of 89 games, making her the career leader in matches started. Smothers has been an all-conference selection four times in her career. In the 2017, 2018, and 2020 seasons, she was a first-team selection and nabbed second team honors in 2019.

Smothers will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Soccer Team ballot, where first- and second-team All-America honorees will be selected.
