Smothers and Wahlen named first team all-CCAC; Hamilton on second team

CCAC Release

All-CCAC Teams

A trio of Bees were named to the all-CCAC team the conference announced on Monday.

Erin Smothers and Morgan Wahlen were first-team selections, while Margaret Hamilton was named to the second team.

Smothers, a defender from Countryside, Ill., returned to the first-team after earning second-team honors last season. She started all 17 games for the Bees, helping the defense earn nine shutouts which ranks 19th in the NAIA for total shutouts. Smothers had one goal and one assist this season. She was a first-team selection in 2017 and 2018.

Wahlen, a midfielder from Batavia, Ill., garnered a first-team selection for the first time in her career. She earned second-team honors back in 2017. Wahlen was the team leader in goals, scoring nine, including two game-winners. Her nine goals are a career season-high. Wahlen scored a career game-high four goals in a win over Governors State on March 17th which was good enough for the CCAC individual game-high in goals. She also had one assist giving her 19 points on the season. Wahlen scored the lone goal for the Bees in the CCAC title game.

Hamilton, a transfer from Rock Springs, Wyo., gained second-team accolades in her first year with the Bees. She was just behind Wahlen in offensive production, scoring seven goals with one assist on the season. She had a game-high two goals in the win over St. Francis (Ill.) on February 18th.

St. Ambrose finished their season 9-7-1 overall and 6-4 in the conference. SAU upset No. 9 Central Methodist on March 14th and made it to their first-ever CCAC championship game.
