Bees back to winning ways in 3-1 decision over Cougars

On a night they recognized their seniors, the Bees snapped their brief two-match losing streak with a 3-1 win over Saint Xavier Saturday at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

St. Ambrose outshot the Cougars 29-9 to move to 11-3 overall and 6-2 in the conference on a night the team celebrated the career of seniors Madison Volpert and Kaitlin Buss.

Lisa Walter got the scoring started in the 11th minute when her shot was deflected in by an SXU player.

Late in the half, Katie Reitz notched her 10th goal of the year, coming off a Maddie Aguilar assist, to up the lead to 2-0.

Erin Smothers added an unassisted insurance goal in the 81st minute before Saint Xavier (4-8-2, 3-4-1 CCAC) scored in the final five minutes to avoid the shutout.

Katie Turnquist made three saves, all in the second half, to earn the win.

SAU will play its final regular-season home match of the year Wednesday when the Bees host Olivet Nazarene. The match at St. Vincent's is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
