Offense tallies seven more goals in shutout of Holy Cross

Fresh off a five-goal performance last time out, St. Ambrose exploded for seven more goals in a 7-0 shutout of Holy Cross Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

The Bees, who had scored a total of 11 goals over their first seven matches, have now scored 12 goals their last two times out.

Lisa Walter led SAU with two goals, including what proved to be the game winner, just 1:29 into the match off a corner kick from Morgan Wahlen. Exactly one minute later, Stephanie Quingley's cross from the left side was finished by Katie Reitz for her fifth goal of the season.

Erin Smothers connected with Walter for her second goal of the match in the 19th minute before another Wahlen corner kick ended with a Madison Volpert goal in the 22nd minute.

Elisa Senno scored on a Katie Pendleton assist, and Volpert matched Walter with her second goal of the day late in the half to up the lead to 6-0 at the break.

Samantha Morgan added an unassisted second-half goal to close out the scoring.

St. Ambrose finished with 27 total shots, 18 of those coming in the first half.

The outburst overshadowed a defensive effort that allowed just a single shot, that coming in the first half. SAU has posted three straight shutouts, five overall, and allowed just four total shots over the last two matches.

Molly McLaughlin and Katie Turnquist were the beneficiaries of the defense, each playing a half in goal for the Bees.

SAU will look to keep rolling when the Bees next visit Judson Tuesday at 3 p.m.
