Men's JV takes tournament win at Five Seasons Classic
The St. Ambrose men's Junior Varsity squad brought home the title this past weekend. Competing at the Five Seasons Classic, hosted by Mount Mercy, the JV1 team snuck out a narrow victory against the host school's JV1 squad.
SAU posted a 9-1 record in the match play event, with their only loss coming to St. Ambrose JV2 squad. The Bees defeated Mount Mercy in the decisive final game to preserve the victory.
Team members were Evan White (1035-five games), Jay Oliva-Colobong (858-four games), Raiden Nakagawa (855-four games), Anthony Mastroianni (744-four games), Wyatt Honecker (728-three games), Logan Boll (671-three games), Jaxon Robinson (175-one game) and Will Young (149-one game).
The varsity team earned a runner-up showing, posting an 8-2 record with both losses coming to Mount Mercy. Team members included Lucas Hersrud (1132-five games), Tyler Close (1039-five games), Kendric Siders (1033-five games), Keaten Bieri (772-four games), Kevin Magnuson (428-two games), Nicholas Kidd (428-two games), Tommy Burns Jr. (168-one game) and Zach Greim (140-one game). Hersrud finished second in Saturday's competition, earning a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
St. Ambrose JV2 finished fourth in the event, and their team players were Juny Almeida (816-four games), Josh Prowse (800-four games), Chayce Stouffer (743-four games), Brendan DeWerth (554-three games), Eli Haack (506-three games), Myles Breemeersch (378-two games), Matthew Edler (309-two games) and Charlie Wooldridge (520-three games).
The women's team finished third in the 13-team event. They posted an 8-2 record, finishing with a pinfall total of 7702.
Team members were Haven Hospodar (895-five games), Maddie Ksobiech (888-five games), Sammy Upham (869-five games), Marissa Bills (802-five games), Tricia Alvarado (540-three games), Megan Nyenhuis (307-two games), Brooklyn Schlapkohl and Madison Holevoet.
Teams are on the sidelines until they compete at the Leatherneck Classic in Rockford, Ill., Nov. 9-10.
