Nate Stubler collected a runner-up finish at this season's Intercollegiate Singles Championship tournament this past week. The southpaw qualified as the No. 1 seed after six games of qualifying. He averaged 206.33 for his six games on a demanding condition, and earned a first-round bye into the match play competition.

He won a pair of matches to qualify for the TV show, which featured the four finalists. He defeated C.J. Petrin 217-183 in the semifinal match, and fell to champion Brandon Vallone 184-158 in the championship match.

Other St. Ambrose advancers included Dakota Solonka, Cameron Crowe and Jordan Monnens. They were among 24 bowlers who advanced out of sectional qualifying into the national finals.

On the women's side, Megan Hess qualified sixth and also earned a first-round bye, but fell in her first round of match play to the eventual champion, Chloe Skurzinski.

The St. Ambrose men rolled into the national tournament hoping to continue the momentum of last season's runner-up finish. They overcame a slow start in qualifying, charging from 14th place into fifth over the final 16 games. That earned the Bees a No. 5 seed, and a first-round battle with powerhouse McKendree University, which McKendree won 4 games to 2.

That set up a contender's bracket clash with No. 16 seed William Patterson, which St. Ambrose won 4-2. In the next round, SAU faced the No. 3 team in the nation, and the tournament's top seed, Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD). In a back-and-forth battle, with every game coming down to the final frame, SCAD prevailed 4-2 and to eliminate the Bees. The final result for St. Ambrose was a ninth place tie. Wis.-Whitewater defeated Wichita State 3-2 in the TV finals to capture their first national championship.
