St. Ambrose falls to IUNW

St. Ambrose dropped a 77-51 road contest to Indiana Northwest this afternoon in Gary, Ind. Only six Bees scored for SAU in the loss. SAU was outscored in three of the four quarters.

After the end of the first quarter, the Bees found themselves down by seven.

Carrieanne Hungate opened up the scoring with a layup for St. Ambrose in the second period. At the 8:44 mark, Abby Wolter knocked down a 3-pointer to put the Bees within four points.

It was Wolter again for the Bees to keep SAU within striking distance.

Mary Gruber and Caitlyn Thole each sunk treys from beyond the arc to tie the ball game at 30 each about halfway through the quarter.

Then, the RedHawks scored nine straight before the Bees got on the board. Wolter knocked down another 3-pointer to bring St. Ambrose back within six points before the halftime break.

Just out of the break, IUNW went on another seven point run and the RedHawks slowly added to their already large lead.

Olivia Harter and Wolter were the only Bees to score in the third quarter for SAU. That accounted for 10 points.

The RedHawks netted scores six times before Allie Govert scored on a layup for St. Ambrose in the final period.

After, SAU could never find any offensive power after these large RedHawk runs as they dropped the conference match 77-51.

This loss drops the Bees to 8-17 overall and 6-12 in conference play.

Wolter led all scorers with 19 points. She added in eight boards. Harter followed with 11 points and five rebounds.

Thole grabbed down nine rebounds while she netted eight points. Gruber and Govert each added five points. Hungate netted three.

The Bees host Saint Xavier this Wednesday in Lee Lohman Arena. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
