
SAU thumps the Crimson Wave
St. Ambrose blew out the Crimson Wave of Calumet this evening as the Bees won by 32 scores. SAU outscored the Crimson Wave in every period to put up a 79-47 victory. This win moves St. Ambrose to 7-13 overall and 5-8 in conference play. The 79 points the Bees put up was the most scored by the squad all season so far.
The Bees found their offensive power early on and remained steadfast throughout all four periods of play. St. Ambrose balanced out their scoring as Erica Bostwick, Isabella Hutchinson, and Carrieanne Hungate came off the bench and each chipped in 10 points.
In the opening period, SAU built a six-point lead and never looked back. St. Ambrose scored only 14 first-quarter points compared to what was to come for the Bees as after the halftime break St. Ambrose dropped 25 scores as a team.
SAU led by as much as 33 points in the third period.
Calumet never kept pace with the Bees as St. Ambrose was lights-out from the field, shooting just under 50%. SAU caused 26 Crimson Wave turnovers to convert those to 37 total Bee points.
St. Ambrose was all over the boards, having out-rebounded Calumet 44-27 on the evening.
Mary Gruber scored a season-high 13 points for the Bees. Payton Calouette followed right behind with 11 scores. Gruber added seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Calouette matched Gruber with assists.
Abby Wolter returned to action this evening and dropped in nine points. Caitlyn Thole sunk eight points but grabbed a team-high 10 boards to tack on with her four assists.
Olivia Harter netted 5-of-her-7 scores in the first quarter alone.
Hungate added in six rebounds while Bostwick and Hutchinson added five each.
St. Ambrose looks to carry their momentum into the upcoming game as they host conference-foe Judson this weekend at 1 p.m.
