Turnovers haunt St. Ambrose on the road

SAU turned the ball over 34 times en-route to a 92-63 loss in Bourbonnais, Ill. as the Tigers of Olivet Nazarene put up 50 points off the bench. In comparison, the Bees' bench only added 20 scores.

The Bees started strong and matched the pace and scoring of the high-powered Olivet Nazarene offense. At the end of the first, both sides were all tied up at 13 each with the Bees having held the lead within the quarter.

Both sides ramped up their offensive intensity just before half. St. Ambrose netted 20 points in the quarter which was led by Erica Bostwick (6 points) with Abby Wolter (5 points) and Caitlyn Thole (4 points) right behind. Isabella Hutchinson and Carrieanne Hungate also chipped in scores. At the half, SAU only trailed by a two-point bucket.

Out of the halftime break ONU jumped all over St. Ambrose and the game changed. In the third quarter, the Bees only managed to score just 13 points while the Tigers went on for 36.

After the 25-point deficit, the Bees were unable to charge back. SAU did play the Tigers close in the final period, but it was too late for St. Ambrose to dig themselves out of trouble in the 92-63 loss. This drops the Bees to 6-12, 4-7.

The Tigers took advantage of second-chance points as they scored 20 of their points off offensive boards. But, overall the Bees out-rebounded the Tigers by three, 51-48.

Both Thole and Wolter dropped in 16 points for the Bees. Wolter added another double-double to her resume as she grabbed 13 boards. Thole was one rebound and one assist short of a triple-double with nine each.

Bostwick netted nine points while both Payton Calouette and Hungate each scored eight. Calouette registered seven rebounds with Hungate just behind with six.

Mary Gruber came up big on the glass with seven boards.

Hutchinson netted three while Allie Govert scored two.

SAU looks to get back on track as they travel to Notre Dame, Ind. for another conference match with Holy Cross this weekend. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
