
St. Ambrose takes down Calumet 70-50
A 12-0 run late in the first quarter was all St. Ambrose needed to power past Calumet St. Joseph 70-50 Monday afternoon in Lee Lohman Arena.
The Bees, who had trailed 12-10, ripped off 12 straight points in a three-minute stretch. Abby Wolter and Isabella Hutchinson each had four points and Caitlyn Thole and Payton Calouette had two apiece to help SAU build a 22-12 lead.
Calumet (2-12, 0-6 CCAC) scored the final points of the quarter before St. Ambrose (4-9, 2-4 CCAC) opened the second quarter with eight points in a row. Thole had four of those points while Olivia Harter and Wolter each contributed two, to up the advantage to 30-14.
The margin was 45-27 at the half and the Bees were never threatened the rest of the way.
SAU limited CCSJ to 37.3 percent shooting for the game. That included a 2-of-13 mark from 3-point range. The Bees also more than doubled up the Crimson Wave in assists (22 to 10) and forced 29 turnovers, which they turned into 38 points.
Nine different Bees scored in the victory.
Thole led the way with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Wolter scored 13 points while Harter and Calouette each scored 10.
Emma Rutter, who matched Harter with a pair of 3-pointers, scored nine points. Erica Bostwick finished with six, Hutchinson had four, and Allie Govert and Kania Starks each netted two.
Mary Gruber was credited with five assists and five steals.
SAU will host Viterbo Wednesday.
