Bees doubled up by CCAC-leading Jaguars

After Abby Wolter scored on the team's first shot of the game Saturday at Governors State, St. Ambrose missed its next six attempts. It was a sign of things to come as poor shooting plagued the Bees in a 68-34 conference loss.

Kania Starks ultimately ended the dry spell, which included a pair of missed free throws and six turnovers, with a 3-pointer. But by then the CCAC-leading Jaguars had already built a 17-5 lead.

St. Ambrose (3-9, 1-4 CCAC) shot just 2-of-10 from the field in falling behind 21-5 after one quarter. Things didn't get any better in the second as a 2-for-11 effort put the deficit at 33-9 at the half.

SAU settled things in the third quarter, putting up 16 points in the frame, but it was too late.

The Bees finished 13-of-47 from the floor, a .277 mark. That included a solid 6-of-16 performance from beyond the arc. St. Ambrose was also just 2-of-8 from the line.

Governors State (12-3, 6-1 CCAC) shot better than 45 percent from the field and knocked down 11 free throws. The Jaguars also grabbed a 44-32 rebounding advantage and turned 20 Bee turnovers into 27 points.

Erica Bostwick was the only Bee to score in double figures. She finished with 10 points. Wolter totaled six points to go along with a team-best eight rebounds.

Isabella Hutchinson came off the bench to contribute four points and three rebounds. Olivia Harter, Elly Doe and Starks each dropped in three points. Caitlyn Thole and Emma Rutter each scored two and Payton Calouette added a single point.

SAU will host Calumet Monday.
