St. Ambrose falls short in a battle with the Mustangs

The St. Ambrose softball team put up a fight in a close match up at Mount Mercy Wednesday afternoon, ending in a 2-3 score. Game two was canceled in the third inning due to impending weather.

The Bees took an early lead over the Mustangs in the second inning. Mya Millsaps led off the inning with a single to third base and stole second base during the next at-bat. With two outs, Taylor Martyn drove a hit up the middle of the field to bring Millsaps across home plate.

St. Ambrose regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning. Mady Reed reached first base safely after dropping a bunt to the pitcher. Then Becca Haag came up to the plate and smashed a double to the outfield, which brought Reed around the bases to score. The Bees' scoring was halted due to a fielder's choice to end the inning. The Mustangs slammed the door shut on their win by scoring two runs in their half of the sixth inning.

Reed led the offensive front with three hits for St. Ambrose. Brynnlin Kroymann, Haag, Martyn, and Millsaps each had a hit in the game. Runs were batted in by Haag and Martyn.

Leah Maro was the starting pitcher for the Bees followed by Cara Linnenkamp and Bianca Shorter.

The Bees are next in action Thursday as they travel to Olivet Nazarene for a doubleheader.
