SAU closes Dome Tournaments with another victory
The Bees wrapped up their third and final weekend of Dome Tournaments in the Ambrose Dome Sunday. SAU fell to Culver-Stockton 4-1 before defeating Mount Mercy 3-2.
SAU collected eight hits but could only push across a single run in the 4-1 loss to Culver-Stockton.
That run came in the bottom of the second when Laurel Politsch singled to plate Justice Krus for a 1-0 lead. But that proved to be it as the Bees stranded eight runners on base.
Kylie Schult took the loss after allowing three runs over four innings in relief. She was the third St. Ambrose pitcher of the game, following Ada Boysen, who struck out three over two innings, and Bianca Shorter, who tossed one scoreless frame.
Krus had two of the team's eight hits. Politsch, Reagan Engberg, Ellie Downing, Kylee Claypool, Mady Reed and Taylor Martyn had the others.
A strong pitching performance and taking advantage of a Mustang error aided the Bees in the 3-2 win over Mount Mercy.
Allyson Harrold got the win by striking out four over five innings. She surrendered a pair of runs. Leah Maro earned the save by slamming the door with four strikeouts over the final two scoreless frames.
Deadlocked at 0-0, SAU got all its runs in the fourth.
Reed started the inning by drawing a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Becca Haag then reached on a throwing error, allowing Reed to score. One out later, Reagan Engberg singled to plate pinch runner Anna Engberg and Paige Kirkman followed with an RBI double.
Mount Mercy pushed across a pair of runs in the top of the fifth but would score no more.
Haag, Krus and Leonard joined Reagan Engberg and Kirkman with hits in the win.
SAU will head outdoors to play at William Penn on Mar. 4.
