St. Ambrose collects two more Ambrose Dome wins
St. Ambrose moved to 7-1 in the early season following a pair of wins on the first day of the third and final Dome Tournament played at the Ambrose Dome Saturday. The Bees defeated Culver-Stockton 6-3 and Aquinas 5-1.
Leah Maro allowed just one earned run while striking out seven to get the complete-game victory in the opener. She surrendered just a pair of hits.
Kylee Claypool finished 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Mya Millsaps went 2-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs to lead the offense.
But it was a Becca Haag solo home run in the second inning that got SAU on the board, tying the game at 1-1. Claypool doubled in Millsaps later in the inning for a short-lived 2-1 lead. C-SC tied the game with a run in the top of the third.
Millsaps reached on an error in the fourth that plated Parker Leonard to put St. Ambrose in front for good. Claypool followed with a run-scoring double for a 4-2 lead.
After the Wildcats got within a run at 4-3, Millsaps had an RBI single and Claypool a run-scoring triple in the sixth to end the scoring.
Leonard and Reagan Engberg also collected hits.
It was then the pitching of Allyson Harrold and Cara Linnenkamp that carried SAU to the 5-1 win over Aquinas.
Harrold allowed two hits and one run while striking out four over five innings. Linnenkamp earned the win by pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
Down 1-0 in the fourth, Paige Kirkman tied the score with a sacrifice fly to bring in Ellie Downing. Two innings later, Kirkman reached on an error that allowed Haag to score for a 2-1 lead. Justice Krus later ripped a three-run homer that also scored Leonard and Liz Garcia for the 5-1 advantage.
Eight different Bees had at least one hit with Haag finishing with two. Millsaps, Engberg, Downing, Kirkman, Leonard, Krus and Kylee Vaughn also had hits.
St. Ambrose will close out its Dome season with games against Culver-Stockton and Mount Mercy Sunday.
