Busy weekend concludes with dual at Quincy

A day after competing against Division I St. Thomas, St. Ambrose hit the road to visit Quincy. The Bees dropped the competitive dual with the men losing 116-88.5 and the women falling 123-81.

Several Bees earned team points.

Four different SAU men won individual events. Marat Usov led a 1-2-3 charge for the Bees in the 200-yard individual medley. Usov won in 2:00.66. Jayden Coetzer (2:02.78) was second and Luke Thomas (2:06.29) took third. Mikhi Hassim took the 100-yard butterfly in 52.00 seconds. Juan Gomez was third in 56.13 seconds and Luke Sproule placed fifth.

Gomez won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:00.81. Sproule was fourth. Cory Werrett was the other men's champion. He took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.08. Thomas was fourth and Thomas Noller fifth.

Riley Stevenson (22.18 seconds) and Panagiotis Pappous (22.57) placed second and third, respectively, in the 50-yard freestyle. Jayden Coetzer was runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.04 seconds. Carter Gaber ended fourth.

Panagiotis Pappous placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in 48.69 seconds. Brett Jones was fourth and Jonas Friess fifth. Friess also took third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 10:22.29 and Sebastian Pereira was fourth. Gomez placed fourth and Benny Zarhin fifth in the 200-yard freestyle.

Pappous, Hassim, Stevenson and Friess were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:13.86. Jones, Carter Prull, Gaber and Zarhin were third in 3:14.49. The 200-yard medley relay team of Gaber, Werrett, Hassim and Stevenson took second in 1:35.58. Gavin Hopewell, Thomas, Coetzer and Nikolai Valencia finished fourth.

The St. Ambrose women also had four individual champions. Grace Bobeldyk won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.75. Bryn Kiley was runner-up in 2:04.84. Anna Gute won the 50-yard freestyle sprint in 25.68 seconds. Sophia Ewanic was third in 26.61 seconds and Alexis Hill finished fifth.

Leyre Antonanzas won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:16.73. Kennedy Capman took fourth. The final Bee woman to win was Bridget O'Grady, who took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.43. Kate Henson was third in 1:12.82 and Irene Artabe finished fifth.

Bobeldyk (1:04.34), O'Grady and Artabe were third, fourth and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly. Annaliese Bowser was third in the 1000-yard freestyle in 12:13.10, just ahead of Amber Warak. Ewanic was third in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:39.32 with Bowser placing fourth. Kiley's time of 57.60 seconds was good for third in the 100-yard freestyle. Ruthie Gemmen ended fifth. Kennedy Capman took fifth in the 100-yard backstroke.

Artabe, O'Grady, Antonanzas and Gute were second in the 200-yard medley relay in 1:52.96. Capman, Kate Henson, Emily Henson and Hill were fourth. Gute, Bobeldyk, Antonanzas and Kiley were second in the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:48.63. Gemmen, Warak, Bowser and Ewanic took fourth.

The Bees will compete at Olivet Nazarene next Saturday.
