St. Ambrose earns a conference draw on the road
The Bees headed East to Crown Point, Ind. to face the Indiana-Northwest RedHawks in what deemed to show as a conference battle between the two teams. In the first half, the score was looking promising for a Bees win until IUNW found a way to tie the match as neither team could find the game winner at the end. St. Ambrose would net a goal before half as the RedHawks would score shortly after the break to force a 1-1 tie.
Throughout the match, both sides played an evenly fought game as SAU was only outshot 14-13. It took St. Ambrose until the 12th minute to create any real offensive pressure for the RedHawks to worry about as Sam Flello stood behind the Bees first corner kick of the match. A few shots did come of this attacking effort as both were wide of the net, not posing any real scoring chance. The Bees would hound the IUNW defense as they continually searched for the opening goal. The RedHawks would not stand down to the pressure as they powered forward for scoring opportunities of their own. Kai Domagala and the Bees defense remained stout in these efforts.
David Sanchez-Teba's offensive efforts put St. Ambrose ahead as he notched what would be the only goal in the match for St. Ambrose. SAU searched for another goal before half for some breathing room but that would never happen as the IUNW defense locked in, looking for a goal of their own.
Shortly before half, both sides exchanged shots on goal, each forcing the keepers to step up and make saves. St. Ambrose headed into break with a 1-0 lead.
In the final period of play, adjustments were made for both squads as SAU started the offensive attack early in the half. St. Ambrose forced the goal keeper of IUNW into multiple saves as he would stand tall for the RedHawks.
That defensive effort would turn into offensive effort as the RedHawks would find the breakthrough goal they needed to tie the match.
With the score tied at one all, the Bees would play hard until late in the period as they searched for the game-winner. This goal would come for neither team as the final ended 1-1.
This score would move the Bees to 0-6-3 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play.
Sam Flello led the way with five total shots while Matheus Migueis created two opportunities. Sanchez-Teba, the goal scorer would only need one shot to score in the match. Thomas Gaither, Joe Campbell, Owen Gannaway, Owen Hull, and Gus Stevens all recorded one shot each.
Domagala earned six saves on seven total shots.
Looking ahead for SAU, they will head to Notre Dame, Ind. as they face Holy Cross on the road. Kick off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CST at Saints Field.
