Elliott scores lone goal; Sanchez-Teba grabs the assist

St. Ambrose found themselves tied 1-1 early in the second half at the number three ranked team of Bethel (IN) in Mishawaka, Ind. A lone goal from Eli Elliott tied things at one apiece in the 55th minute of play. Unfortunately for SAU, the Pilots would outpace the Bees the rest of the match to continue their unbeaten streak. This loss drops St. Ambrose to 0-3-2.

The Bees opened up the action with the first shot of the game from Hunter Lillie. But the Pilots would take over to fire away at goalkeeper Dawson Yegge. Yegge and the Bees defense fended off an offensive attack from the Pilots which consisted of three shots and two corner kicks. Bethel would press the defense of SAU for a mere eight minutes of play.

St. Ambrose would charge down to their offensive third to earn a corner kick for themselves until a foul was called to break up play.

The pressure from Bethel would build but the Bees would not break until a shot in the 43rd minute rattled off the post. Less than a minute later the Pilots would punch it in for their first breakthrough of the match to lead 1-0. SAU headed into half time with promise as they only trailed 1-0. 

SAU started the second half with momentum. A shot 44 seconds into the half to force a goal keeper save from the Pilots. The Bees would heighten that pressure to rally off two shots on net and a corner kick but nothing would come for the Bees. 

Until, the 55th minute of play was the breakthrough the Bees needed on the third ranked team. Eli Elliott netted his third goal of the season for the Bees. David Sanchez-Teba grabbed the assist on the play. 

Bethel would score a mere six minutes later to retake the lead 2-1. This goal deflated the momentum of St. Ambrose as the Pilots would take over the match. 

Yegge and the Bees defense would stand tall until Bethel found their third, fourth, and fifth goal of the match late in play. The Pilots would win 5-1. 

St. Ambrose created five total shots with Jörn Reck leading the way with two on goal. Hunter Lillie, Owen Hull, and Eli Elliott, the evental goal scorer each had one shot for the Bees.

David Sanchez-Teba grabbed an assist on the evening. 

Dawson Yegge played all 90 minutes in net for SAU, facing 14 shots with nine saves. 

The Bees open conference play next with a home match vs. Olivet Nazarene next week. Kickoff is slated for Tues., Sep. 24 at 6 p.m.
