SAU falls at Taylor University

The Bees dropped another nonconference match to Taylor University yesterday afternoon. St. Ambrose lost 10-1 in Upland, Ind. This leaves the Bees still in search for their first win of the 2025 campaign.

It took the Bees until the fourth quarter to net a goal, it would be the only goal that St. Ambrose managed to score. At the 9:28 mark, Cameron Washington threaded a pass to Ayden Fraelle for the score. This brought the score to 8-1 in favor of the Trojans.

SAU allowed four goals in the opening quarter, but shut down the Trojans all second quarter as they headed into the break only down four scores.

St. Ambrose was not shy of shooting, the Bees rallied off nine shots in the second quarter which outshot the Trojans. But, nothing fell for St. Ambrose.

The defense of SAU locked in and only allowed two goals in the third quarter, but the young offensive power of St. Ambrose was unable to pace the Trojans scoring.

The Trojans broke open the scoring in the final period to put away the Bees for good. Fourth quarter scoring chances from Aidan Fergus, Ryan Swanson, Jagger Shaddix, and Jack Wiltrout all missed the mark in the loss.

The Bees were successful on 20-26 clear attempts.

Eli Hahn led the team in groundball pickups and caused turnovers with eight and five, respectively. Wiltrout added in four groundballs as Swanson and Isaac Martinez each picked up three.

Martinez grabbed 11 saves in his 60 minutes of action in net for the Bees.

St. Ambrose looks to enter the winning column when they travel to Chicago, Ill. to play Aquinas out of Michigan on March 15th. The game will be played at Brother Rice High School with a start time of 3 p.m. CST.
