Second quarter faults hurts SAU

St. Ambrose traveled to No. 4 Indiana Tech yesterday evening and dropped the contest 4-14 after a second quarter the Bees would like to forget. This loss leaves SAU still in search for their first win of the 2025 season.

The Bees matched the Warriors in scoring in the opening period at one goal each. Ayden Fraelle took a pass from Jagger Shaddix to score the Bees first goal at the 8:31 mark in the opening period, but then SAU would stall offensively as they did not score for the following 30 minutes of action. At the end of the first quarter, the Bees and Warriors were tied at 1-1.

The following period put the Bees behind eight goals as they were unable to stop the Warriors attacking front. St. Ambrose never figured out an answer for Indiana Tech's offensive power before halftime which put the Bees in a 9-1 deficit before the break.

After the break, it was Fraelle again for the Bees. He scored at the 9:08 mark in the third period to close the large gap. But, just under seven minutes later, the Warriors found an answer to put their lead right back to eight scores at 10-2. St. Ambrose never managed to break through the lockdown defense consistently that Indiana Tech showed to go on any sort of offensive stretch.

Then, Indiana Tech doubled up SAU's scoring in the final period as the Bees only scored twice to drop the contest 14-4.

The Bees were highly successful on face off attempts having won 14-22. St. Ambrose was also successful on 11-16 clear attempts.

Fraelle led the Bees with two scores. Anthony Lyons and Ryan Swanson each netted a goal.

Shaddix and Cameron Washington both notched an assist for St. Ambrose.

Eli Hahn and Cleveland Lemus picked up four groundballs. Hahn added in two caused turnovers along with Joe Campbell.

Isaac Martinez played all 60 minutes in net for the Bees and secured 18 saves.

St. Ambrose continues their road stretch as they travel to Upland, Ind. for a matchup with Taylor University tomorrow afternoon. The contest is slated to start at 12 p.m. CST.
