Bees cruise to big win to snap losing streak
The calendar flipped to February and St. Ambrose started the new month with an 85-59 win over Judson to snap a four-game losing streak.
It was the best shooting performance of the year for the Bees.
SAU shot better than 62 percent from the floor, knocking down 36-of-58 shots. That included a 9-of-20 performance from beyond the arc for a season-best 45 percent.
St. Ambrose (13-8, 6-8 CCAC) trailed just once in the contest, that coming at 2-0 just seconds in. The Bees followed with a 10-0 run. Ignacio Dacunda and Atem Agot each scored five points during the spurt.
After opening up a 42-30 lead at the half, the Bees cruised in the second half. SAU missed just seven shots from the floor after halftime, hitting 19-of-26, good for a 73.1-percent mark. Only one of those misses came from inside the arc as the team was 3-of-9 from 3-point range in the second half.
Judson (5-17, 2-12 CCAC) shot less than 38 percent from the floor overall but the Eagles were able to stay somewhat competitive thanks to an 18-of-20 mark from the line. St. Ambrose made just 4-of-9 free throws.
The Bees finished with a 36-21 rebounding advantage, and outscored the Eagles 46-10 in the paint and 16-0 in fastbreak points. The Bee bench also outscored their Judson counterparts 21-6.
Agot led SAU with 21 points. Dacunda finished with 17 points, six rebounds and four assists. Will Spriggs (15) and Grant Mason (11) also hit for double figures.
Elgin Bowen Jr. came off the bench to score six points. Solomon Garrison had five, and Collin Wainscott and Guillermo Narbona scored four apiece. Kieran Farrell netted two points.
The Bees will look for two wins in a row when they host Governors State Wednesday.
