St. Ambrose pulls away late for win at Trinity Christian
In a game where the numbers showed St. Ambrose dominated, the Bees were able to pull away late for a 78-65 win at Trinity Christian Wednesday night.
The Bees outshot the Trolls, shooting at a 48.3-percent clip while TCC shot just 34 percent. That included SAU knocking down more 3-pointers (6-5). St. Ambrose handed out more assists (17-4). The Bees more than doubled up the Trolls on points in the paint (42-20). And the Bees finished with a 36-31 edge on the glass.
But it took a 13-4 run late for SAU to secure the victory.
Leading just 59-54 with inside five minutes to play, Ignacio Dacunda started the game-clinching spurt with a 3-pointer.
With only four made free throws at the time, St. Ambrose (12-4, 5-4 CCAC) turned to the line for the win. Kieran Farrell and Will Spriggs each knocked down two free throws. Spriggs got free for a layup. Then Grant Mason, Atem Agot and Farrell combined for four free throws that gave the Bees a comfortable 72-58 lead with less than two minutes remaining.
SAU hit four more free throws down the stretch to close out the win.
Despite the Bees' late flurry of 12 free throws, Trinity Christian (5-12, 2-7) was able to stay close thanks to a commanding 24-16 edge in points from the line.
Four different Bees scored in double figures, led by Agot's 22 points. Dacunda came off the bench to score 13. Spriggs (12) and Mason (10) also hit double digits.
Guillermo Narbona, who led the team with 10 rebounds, and Elgin Bowen Jr. each scored six points. Farrell finished with five and Austin Born added four.
