Six score in double figures as Bees take down Eagles
Six Bees scored in double figures as St. Ambrose posted an 88-77 win over Judson Saturday afternoon in Elgin, Ill.
The win came despite Judson (3-8, 1-4 CCAC) shooting nearly 53 percent from the floor. SAU overcame this by knocking down a season-high 14 3-pointers. The Bees also converted a season-best 20 free throws in 22 attempts, a 90.9-percent clip, which was another season high.
This all came after St. Ambrose (9-2, 3-2 CCAC) dug itself an 11-point hole in the first half. Down 29-18, Kieran Farrell, Grant Mason and Atem Agot hit consecutive threes, and Mason followed with a three-point play to cap a 12-0 run that put SAU in front 30-29.
Late 3-pointers from Will Spriggs and Collin Wainscott gave the Bees a 36-34 edge at the half.
With Judson holding a slim 39-38 lead two minutes into the second half, St. Ambrose went on a game-deciding run started by a Spriggs triple. Agot scored four points, Spriggs hit another three, Farrell knocked down one of his own, and Guillermo Narbona hit two free throws. A Judson 3-pointer ultimately ended the 15-0 run.
The Bees extended the lead to as many as 19 points and maintained a double-digit lead until the final minute when the Eagles got within nine at 81-72. SAU made eight free throws late to seal the win.
Spriggs led the way with 16 points and four assists. Farrell, who matched Spriggs with four 3-pointers, scored 14. Wainscott came off the bench to also net 14.
Agot scored 13 to go along with eight rebounds. Mason finished with 12 points and Narbona totaled 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Ignacio Dacunda had five points while Nolan Sexton and Austin Born had two apiece to round out the Bee scoring.
