St. Ambrose runs winning streak to five with victory at Judson
St. Ambrose continued its late-season surge by defeating Judson 25-15, 25-22, 23-25, 25-18 in Elgin, Ill., Saturday afternoon. The win was the Bees' fifth in a row.
SAU played nearly a perfect first set, recording 14 kills with just one hitting error to hit at a .542 clip. The Bees continued their dominance in the second set.
In the third, back-to-back kills from Trenyce Bonner gave St. Ambrose a 16-13 lead. But that was followed by a six-point spurt from the Eagles. The Bees pulled even at 23-23 following a Bonner kill and an ace from Mackenzie Grafton. But SAU wasn't able to complete the sweep as Judson (16-12, 8-4 CCAC) claimed the final two points to extend the match.
The fourth set was tied early at 5-5 before St. Ambrose took control. Grafton had three kills and Grace Beitzel added two behind the serving of Adriana Diaz during a 7-0 run that opened a 12-5 advantage. The Bees were never threatend again.
Grafton led the team with 17 kills. Bonner finished with 17 and Beitzel added 10. Alexa Orozco collected eight kills. Kennedy Hugunin and Kylie Brosius each added a pair of kills.
Ines Marques was credited with a team-best 23 assists. Haley Doucet handed out 17. Kenia Diaz Vega registered 23 digs to lead St. Ambrose.
The Bees, now 14-14 overall and 8-5 in the CCAC, will host St. Francis Thursday night.
