Diaz Vega named CCAC Defensive Player of the Week

CHICAGO --- The first Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference women's volleyball player of the week awards for the 2024 season were disbursed evenly amongst three schools on Tuesday following the efforts of University of St. Francis' Desiree Anderson (Joliet, Ill.), St. Ambrose University's Kenia Diaz Vega (Caguas, Puerto Rico) and Saint Xavier University's Samantha Hovey (Mackinaw, Ill.) over the seven-day period ending Aug. 25.

Diaz Vega averaged better than five digs per set en route to CCAC Defender of the Week recognition. The exact reading was 5.27 with 79 digs over 15 sets and four matches.

The graduate defensive specialist closed out the week with a 29-dig match in a five-set win over Wayland Baptist University (Tex.) on Saturday. She also had 27 digs in a four-set win opposite Graceland University (Iowa) on Friday and another 14 digs in a three-set defeat against Cornerstone University (Mich.), also on Friday.

St. Ambrose went 2-2 in its season-opening weekend.
