St. Ambrose doesn't have answers for IU South Bend

Playing for the third time in four nights, against the conference leaders, St. Ambrose didn't have the answer for Indiana South Bend. The Titans earned a 25-14, 25-21, 25-21 victory Friday to remain unbeaten in CCAC play at 10-0.

The Bees were overpowered from the start.

IUSB (14-3) won four of the first five points in each of the first two sets. In the third, the Titans led 3-0 before the Bees came back with four straight points on kills from Mackenzie Grafton and Meredith Umland and a block from Umland and Amber Tomlin to take a 4-3 lead.

SAU remained competitive throughout the first half of the final set, trailing just 8-7 after a Jill Kavalauskas kill. South Bend responded by winning four straight points before St. Ambrose answered with a 4-0 run of its own to get within 14-12. The Titans then went on an 8-3 run to open a 22-15 advantage on their way to the three-set victory.

Kavalauskas led the Bees with nine kills and 12 digs. Grafton had seven kills and Meredith Siebers finished with six. Rachael Dion collected three kills and Payton Wendt added two. SAU had 36 kills but they were canceled out by 29 hitting errors.

Tomlin led the team with 16 assists and Hannah Sondag added 11. Siebers picked up nine digs and Maicee Pierce recorded eight.

SAU will next visit Governors State Tuesday night.
