Balanced attack leads St. Ambrose past Robert Morris

Four different Bees had at least 10 kills as St. Ambrose defeated Robert Morris 3-1 Tuesday night inside Lee Lohman Arena.

Abby Happ led the way with 19 kills in the 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 31-29 win that snapped a four-match losing streak and got St. Ambrose back to 3-4 in the conference.

Rachael Dion had 16 kills, Jenny Koerner finished with 15 and Brea Cunningham added 10. All four had big kills down the stretch in the fourth set.

Down 24-23, a point away from facing a decisive fifth set, a Koerner kill evened the score. Next it was Cunningham's turn. Her kill erased a second Eagle set point to knot the score at 25-25. Happ fought off another set point with her 19th kill of the night to tie things at 26-26. Then Dion put down kills with St. Ambrose trailing 27-26 and 28-27.

The Bees earned their first match point after Dion and London Williams combined for a block and a 29-28 lead. Two points later, a Koerner kill gave the team a second match point, and this time they capitalized. Williams and Jessica Hemm teamed for a block to close out the win in four sets.

Happ, Dion, Koerner and Cunningham combined for 60 of the Bees' 66 kills. Dion had just two hitting errors for a .636 hitting percentage.

Amber Tomlin led all players with 58 assists.

Grace McGrath had a team-best 15 digs, while Happ had 11 and Alexis Hayes picked up 10. Maicee Pierce was credited with eight digs.

The victory was the start of a busy week for the Bees. St. Ambrose will visit Governors State Thursday night before wrapping up the week with a match at Saint Xavier Saturday.
