Bees unable to pick up first CCAC win at Trinity International

St. Ambrose remained winless in CCAC play following a 3-0 loss at Trinity International Thursday night.

The 25-19, 25-17, 25-16 setback dropped the Bees to 2-10 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

SAU's best chance came in the opening set. The team trailed just 14-13 after a Jessica Hemm service ace. But Trinity International (11-6, 4-1 CCAC) followed with a six-point run to break things open.

After falling behind 12-6 in dropping the second set, St. Ambrose grabbed an early 6-4 lead in the third. The Trojans rallied but the deficit was just 15-13 on a Morgan Twing kill later in the set. However the Bees again stalled as TIU ran off four straight points and seven of the next eight to effectively end the match.

Riley Hummert led SAU with seven kills. Breanne Cunningham had five and Hemm finished with four.

Twing had a team-high 17 assists while Sydni Coultrip was credited with six. Jenna Laxton paced the team with 12 digs. Abby Happ collected nine.

The Bees will play their first home match in more than two weeks next Tuesday against Robert Morris. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
