SAU picks up wins over Wisconsin Lutheran

St. Ambrose earned a pair of road victories at Wisconsin Lutheran Friday afternoon. The SAU women won 5-2 while the men won 6-1.

The women were able to even their record at 2-2 after winning four of the six singles matches.

Hayden Evans breezed through a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4. Julia Turek (No. 2) and Jenna Smithmeyer (No. 5) won by identical 6-0, 6-3 scores. Audrey Pender picked up a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 6 spot.

Chiara Aguirre Cortez dropped her match at No. 1 singles 6-4, 7-6 (8-6).

The Bees swept the three doubles matches. Aguirre Cortez and Turek teamed for a 6-2 win at the top spot. Yeva Shershan and Evans paired for a 6-4 victory at No. 2. And the No. 3 team of Smithmeyer and Kate Jones won 6-2.

The Bee men dropped just four total games in their 6-1 victory.

St. Ambrose did not drop a game in the two singles wins. The No. 1 team of Sebastian Arevalo Piraquive and Gianfranco Garcia and the second team of Miguel Simpaio and Esteban Rocha each won by scores of 6-0.

Garcia at No. 2, Simpaio at No. 4 and Rocha at No. 5 all cruised to 6-0, 6-0 singles wins. Arevalo Piraquive dropped a single game in his 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. Jaime Febres picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 3.

The St. Ambrose men (3-1) will host Cornell while the women welcome Monmouth Saturday.
