St. Ambrose takes loss in Michigan to end winning streak

Tuesday afternoon, the Bees started their Spring Break by traveling to Adrian, Mich., to take on Siena Heights. In this competitive match, SAU fell short, losing 12-8.

St. Ambrose came out hot, scoring first with an Anabelle Brown goal. The Saints answered late in the first quarter by putting three in the back of the net. That three-goal run put the bees down 3-1 ending the first quarter. 

SHU kept its momentum going, scoring first to open up the second. Katie McGlynn put an end to the run with a big goal for the Bees. St. Ambrose struck again with Morgan O'Malley scoring on an assist coming from Brown. With SAU bringing the score to 4-3, the Saints put another in the back of the net on a man-up attempt. Shortly after, Raegan Dotterer netted one in for the Bees with an assist coming from Cailey Kramer, bringing the team back within one. SHU ended the second quarter going on a three-goal run, putting SAU down 8-4 going into the half. Saige Carlton helped keep the scoring low with an 11-save half.

After halftime, St. Ambrose struck first with Brown scoring a goal to make it 8-5. The Saints added another one, but McGlynn answered back with a goal which came from a Brown assist. SHU capitalized on two man-up opportunities, putting them up 11-6. SAU ended the third quarter with Karsen Jummati scoring on a free-position shot to trim the deficit to 11-7.

The Saints started the fourth period quickly, scoring within the first 30 seconds of the quarter. With the Bees trailing 12-7, there was not another goal in the quarter until the final 10 seconds when Brown put another in the back of the net. That was assisted by Kramer. 

Despite losing 12-8, the Bees fought hard with great performances from several individuals. Carlton kept St. Ambrose in this game with a 22-save day in the cage. Brown led the bees in scoring with three goals. That was followed by McGlynn with two, and Dotterer and O'Malley each notching one in. Kramer and Brown were both facilitating with two assists each. 

This was St. Ambrose's first game of the Michigan trip. The Bees will look to wrap up their Spring Break trip on a high note in Livonia on Thursday when they take on Madonna at 4 p.m.
