
SAU sweeps conference back-to-back on the road
With a second-quarter comeback, St. Ambrose completed the Missouri sweep by taking down UHSP 13-7 in St. Louis, Thursday afternoon.
The Bees opened up scoring in this Heart matchup with Raegan Dotterer putting her free position shot in the back of the net to go up 1-0. The Eutectics answered back with three goals of their own to take the lead. Ending the first quarter, the Bees were down 3-1.
The Bees came into the second quarter hot with Karsen Jummati scoring within the first minute. Anabelle Brown followed this up with a goal shortly after to tie up the game 3-3. Late in the second quarter, St. Ambrose notched in two more goals both on free position shots by Abby Vanderwarren, and Brown. The Bees were dominant on defense this quarter led by Saige Carlton in the cage, not allowing any goals. After this 4-0 quarter the Bees were buzzing going into halftime up 5-3.
The second half opened up with Jummati putting one in the back of the net, putting the Bees up 6-3. The Eutectics scored shortly after to bring the score within two. St. Ambrose followed this up with a three-goal run to go up 9-4, with two goals coming from Brown, and Dotterer notching in one. UHSP ended this Bees run by netting one in. Late in the third, Dotterer added to the score by scoring two quick ones. The Eutectics were able to score one more with less than a minute in the quarter. However, Brown gets momentum back scoring a goal with no time left to put the Bees up 12-6 to end the quarter.
Things slowed down in the final quarter with UHSP scoring five minutes into the period. The Bees added one more to their score thanks to another Brown goal, her sixth of the day, assisted by Jummati. These two goals in the fourth ended the game 13-7.
St. Ambrose won this conference contest, helping them go 2-0 on their Missouri road trip. SAU defeated Culver-Stockton 16-15 Wednesday. Brown led the Bees in goals with six while Dotterer had four, Jummati notching two, and Vanderwarren getting one. Jummati had the lone assist for the game. An outstanding eight saves and three ground balls for Carlton, the Bee in goal.
The Bees are buzzing, winning their last three games to make them undefeated in conference at 3-0 and an overall record of 3-2. The Bees look to stay hot as they travel to Michigan for spring break where they will play Siena Heights on Tuesday, the 18th; followed by Madonna on the 20th.
