Bees drop season opener to No. 6 Missouri Baptist
St. Ambrose had a slow start against the Spartans of No. 6 Missouri Baptist yesterday afternoon in a 25-4 loss at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. The Bees did match MBU in scoring in the final period, but it was unfortunately too late.
Three consecutive Bee goals throughout a four-minute stretch in the final period was the most offensive power SAU could muster up in the match. But, Missouri Baptist had already extended their lead out of reach, and the Spartans matched the Bees for a three goal quarter as well.
Anabelle Brown scored two goals in the final period while Katie McGlynn netted a single score for SAU.
Throughout the first three periods of play, SAU was only able to net one goal against the ranked Spartans defense. That goal came from a free position attempt as Raegan Dotterer scored at the 3:22 mark in the opening period.
The Spartans offense proved to be too much as the Bees were unable to match the scoring power of Missouri Baptist. St. Ambrose proved effective on their free position shots. Both of SAU's free position shots ended with goals for the Bees.
This loss drops the Bees to 0-1 on the season as the Bees are still in search of their first win for the 2025 campaign.
Dotterer added an assist along with her goal. Brown also registerted four draw controls.
Karsen Jummati led the Bees defensively with four caused turnovers. Abby Taaffe picked up four groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Saige Carlton and Brenna Weitekamp both registered two saves in net for SAU.
SAU returns to St. Vincent's Athletic Complex next weekend as they host both Bethel (IN) and Midland. Saturday's contest is slated to start at 1 p.m. CST while Sunday's matchup is scheduled at 2 p.m. CST.
