Wiltrout nets game-winner in overtime

In a back-and-forth game, freshman Maddie Wiltrout's sixth goal of the night proved to be the difference as St. Ambrose escaped with a 16-15 overtime win against Cleary (Mich.) Tuesday in Howell, Michigan.

Wiltrout scored the first goal for the Bees after a quick score from the home team. An unassisted Katie Baranski goal followed to give the visitors an early 2-1 lead. After two goals from Cleary, Baranski found the back of the net again with help from Avery Cummins to even the score. The home team rattled off two more goals to take the lead, until goals from Allie Ruggiero and Baranski. The Cougars put one in the back of the net just before halftime to take a 6-5 lead.

The second half started off with Wiltrout scoring her second goal of the game. Following a Cleary score, Audrey Warner produced three straight goals to give the visitors a 9-7 advantage. The Cougars responded with three straight goals of their own. Erin Green got her name on the score sheet, and Wiltrout scored another to give the Bees the lead. The home team netted two more until Cummins found Mackenzie Zions for a score, and Cummins talling a goal of her own soon after. Wiltrout added another to give SAU a two score advantage. Cleary was able to tie the game up, but Wiltrout scored again to help St. Ambrose regain the lead with under two minutes left. The Cougars found the back of the net to force the game into overtime. But the Bees had the answer in overtime, with Wiltrout scoring her sixth goal of the night.

Allison Claus saved four shots in goal, and Katie Burr stopped 11.

The Bees will face Morningside (Iowa) on Saturday.
