Slow start leads to loss

A slow first half proved to be the difference for St. Ambrose in a 15-10 loss against Concordia (Mich.) Monday afternoon in Michigan.

After the home team got on the board early, the Bees scored a man-down goal from Maddie Wiltrout with Maura Healy on the assist to tie the game up at one. Concordia scored four straight goals until Mackenzie Zions scored a free position shot with less than seven minutes remaining in the half. The Cardinals responded with a man-down goal of their own. Katie Baranski was able to find Allie Ruggiero for an Ambrose goal, but Concordia added two more goals to push their lead to 8-3 at the break.

Baranski was able to get on the score sheet in the second half with help from Audrey Warner after two goals from Concordia. The teams traded goals until the Bees went on a four goal run to cut the lead to 13-10. The Cardinals added two goals to account for the final tally.

Baranski led the way with four goals, and Zions had two. Katie Burr and Allison Claus split time in goal, with Burr making nine saves and Claus one.
