SAU bounces back for big win over Saint Mary

After sufferering their first loss of the season at Clarke Wednesday, the Bees bounced back for a big 21-10 win over Saint Mary Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

St. Ambrose broke open a close game early by outscoring Saint Mary 15-4 over the final 39 minutes. Included was a dominant second half which saw the Bees outshoot the Spires 21-9 in outscoring them 11-4.

Five different Bees each scored at least two goals. Allie Ruggiero led the way with seven goals and Katie Baranski scored five. Katrina Lisowski netted four goals and Erin Green and Sara Goeddel each scored a pair. Avery Cummins also had a goal in the win.

The game was tied at 6-6 before Cummins scored off a Goeddel assist with 8:14 remaining in the first half. SAU would never trail again.

Goals from Lisowski, Ruggiero and Baranski closed the half to open up a 10-6 lead. Ruggiero started the second half with two more goals before Goeddel scored for a 13-6 lead. Saint Mary (0-7, 0-3) got to within 15-10 with just under six minutes remaining, but Lisowski scored just 18 seconds later, in what proved to be the first of six straight St. Ambrose goals to close out the contest.

Allison Claus was credited with 11 saves to earn the win.

SAU, now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the KCAC, will next visit conference rival and No. 2-ranked Benedictine (Kan.) next Saturday.
