Rieger's three goals get St. Ambrose past Madonna

Jamie Rieger had a hat trick and Marie Cristoforo and Dallas Baker each scored two goals to help St. Ambrose defeat Madonna 8-6 Saturday afternoon at the St. Vincent Athletic Complex.

Rieger's three goals all came in the game's first 18 minutes. She first scored 42 seconds in off an Erin Green pass for a 1-0 lead. Then after Madonna (0-3) had taken a 3-1 lead, she put in a pair of goals just two minutes apart to tie the game at 3-3.

Baker and Cristoforo then scored unassisted goals to give the Bees a 5-3 lead, a lead they would never relinquish.

Rieger assisted on Baker's second goal, coming late in the first half, to give St. Ambrose a 6-4 lead at the break.

Cristoforo notched her second goal to push the advantage to 7-4 in the opening minutes of the second half.

The Crusaders pulled to within 7-6 before Green sealed the win with an unassisted goal to complete the scoring.

Elizabeth Zia made nine saves to earn the win.

The Bees will now head to Colorado for a game Tuesday at Johnson & Wales.
