SAU competes at Upper Iowa and Saint Xavier events

St. Ambrose had a busy weekend, finishing fifth at the Upper Iowa Invite and taking third at the Saint Xavier Battle at the Creek.

Amara Lytle led the Bees with a 14th-place finish at the UIU Invite played at Sunnyside Country Club in Waterloo, Iowa, Friday and Saturday. Lytle fired rounds of 85 and 89 to finish with a 174.

Katherine Speer also earned a top-20 finish. She tied for 19th with a 184 after rounds of 90 and 94. Leah Sullivan shot back-to-back 95s for a 190 and Audrey McAleer rebounded from a 102 to fire a closing 94 to finish with a 196.

SAU finished fifth in the seven-team event. The Bees shot consecutive 372s for a 744 total. St. Catherine, which placed all five of its golfers in the top six, won going away. They shot a 618 (311-307). Kyra Venne was individual medalist, shooting a 6-over 150 (76-74).

Aleanna Mendoza had the Bees' top finish of the weekend. She tied for fourth at the Battle at the Creek played at the Creek Course in Morris, Ill., Saturday. Mendoza carded a 7-over 79.

Aiko Mendoza shot an 89, Emma Cameron a 95, Emma Peters a 98 and Jillian Blozevich shot a 99.

St. Ambrose was third overall with a 361. Led by individual medalist Hannah Kilbane's 4-over 76, Saint Xavier won the five-team event with a 317.

St. Ambrose will host the CCAC Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., Apr. 17-18.
