Bees come alive in fourth to defeat RedHawks 72-61

St. Ambrose used a big fourth quarter to defeat Indiana University Northwest 72-61 Saturday afternoon in Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees scored the first eight points of the period to erase what was a one-point deficit, and they received contributions across the board. Jamie Martens had four of those eight points including a jumper to start the quarter that gave SAU a 48-47 lead.

Kylie Wroblewski, who was a perfect 3-for-3 in the period, capped the 8-0 run with a layup following a Jaynee Prestegaard steal for a 54-47 margin. Gabrielle Koelker knocked down a big 3-pointer that restored a seven-point lead after the RedHawks (10-18, 7-13 CCAC) had closed within four with a three of their own.

With four minutes remaining and the lead at 59-52, the Bees seized control with a 9-1 run. Prestegaard followed a Wroblewski layup with four straight points before Maddy Cash connected on a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 68-53 with just over two minutes remaining.

St. Ambrose (14-13, 12-8 CCAC) shot 11-of-16 from the field and outrebounded Indiana Northwest 14-3 in the fourth.

The strong closing helped the Bees shoot better than 47 percent for the game and erase what was a nine-point deficit in the first half. SAU trailed by as many as seven points in the third quarter.

Wroblewski finished 10-of-14 from the floor in scoring a game-high 22 points. She also grabbed 10 rebounds helping the Bees win the battle of the boards 44-23.

Martens scored 11 points, and Madeline Prestegaard (8 points), Madi Epperson (7), Charlotte Flynn (6), Koelker (5) and Jaynee Prestegaard (4) combined for 30 points off the Bee bench. Colleen Grady also scored four points in the win.

The Bees will visit Roosevelt Wednesday before closing the regular season at home next Saturday against Governors State.
