SAU pulls away in second half in victory over Judson

St. Ambrose used a big third quarter to pull away for a 73-56 win over Judson Saturday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees outscored the Eagles 23-11 in the period on their way to improving their record to 7-9 overall and 5-4 in the CCAC.

St. Ambrose changed momentum late in the first half. Trailing 26-24 with just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter, SAU pieced together an 11-3 run behind five points from Maddy Cash and four from Madeline Prestegaard to open up a 35-29 halftime advantage.

The Bees didn't let up.

Gabrielle Koelker opened up the second half with a 3-pointer, the first of her seven points in the frame. Charlotte Flynn then converted a layup to extend the lead to double figures at 40-29. After Judson (0-15, 0-9 CCAC) got back to within nine, Colleen Grady knocked down a jumper to restore a double-digit lead. Kylie Wroblewski then hit a free throw before Koelker drilled a short jumper for a 45-31 edge.

Anna Plumer hit a 3-pointer late in the frame to open up a 58-40 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

St. Ambrose led by as many as 21 points in the fourth before settling for the 17-point win.

Behind Prestegaard and Wroblewski, the Bees overpowered the Eagles, outscoring them 38-18 in the paint. Prestegaard finished 7-of-11 from the field in scoring 15 points, a number matched by Wroblewski. Thanks to her big third quarter, Koelker also reached double figures, scoring 11.

Jaynee Prestegaard added eight points and four rebounds in the win.
