Wroblewski and Prestegaard combine for 29 points in win over TIU

Kylie Wroblewski had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Madeline Prestegaard came off the bench to score 10 points to lead St. Ambrose to an 82-68 win over Trinity International Saturday afternoon at Lee Lohman Arena.

Although they were the only two to finish in double figures, six different Bees scored at least six points to help the team improve to 3-1 in CCAC play.

SAU withstood a strong start and a third-quarter rally from the Trojans.

Trinity International (5-5, 2-3 CCAC) led throughout much of the first quarter and held a 12-11 advantage entering the second. After watching TIU open a 19-13 lead early in the second, SAU came to life.

Showing their depth, the Bees went on a 14-0 run with six different players scoring during the spurt. Charlotte Flynn and Prestegaard each scored to get the deficit down to 19-17. Maddy Cash tied the game with a pair of free throws before Jamie Martens gave St. Ambrose the lead with a jumper. Wroblewski hit 1-of-2 from the line before scoring inside for a 24-19 lead. Gabrielle Koelker completed the run with a three-point play that pushed the lead to 27-19 midway through the second quarter.

SAU extended the lead to as many as 15 points in the third quarter before TIU made things interesting, getting within 50-46 with 2:34 left in the period. But layups from Jaynee Prestegaard and Madi Epperson restored an eight-point lead, and after a Trojan free thrown, Jaynee Prestegaard hit a jumper for a 56-47 lead entering the fourth.

Two Flynn free throws, a Koelker jumper and a free throw from Martens pushed the advantage to 61-47 and the lead remained in double figures the rest of the way.

St. Ambrose shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half and finished at 47 percent for the game while limiting Trinity to 33.8-percent shooting.

Martens, Flynn and Koelker each scored nine points. Epperson netted seven points and Cash and Jaynee Prestegaard each dropped in six.

Wroblewski and Jaynee Prestegaard each grabbed 10 rebounds. Flynn had eight boards and Colleen Grady pulled down seven to go along with four points. Abby Lownik knocked down the team's lone 3-pointer of the game in scoring three points.

A tough early-season schedule will continue Tuesday as the Bees play host to No. 17 Saint Xavier. It will be the fourth nationally-ranked opponent St. Ambrose has faced.
