Bees place sixth at Seminole Valley Stampede
Behind 11th-place individual finishes from both Luke Benes and Kaitlyn Knoche, St. Ambrose was able to finish sixth at the Seminole Valley Stampede at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Saturday.
In races featuring several nationally-ranked teams, the Bees more than held their own.
Benes took 11th in the men's 8K, finishing in 25:16. He was just over a second out of a top-10 finish. Knoche's time of 22:59 was good for 11th in the women's 6K. She was just three seconds behind the 10th-place runner.
Will Dowda also broke 26 minutes, coming in 34th in 25:59.
The next five Bees finished within 36 seconds of each other. Luke Getz was 50th overall in 26:20. Ian Eller (26:25), Chris Miserendino (26:36), Noah Maske (26:42) and Ross Willerth (26:56) were right behind.
Also running for the SAU men were Kale Cartee (27:06), Nathan Boleyn (27:37), Gavin Stalzer (27:54), Bryan Flentge (27:58), Kevin Chaney (28:21), Brennon Munch (28:32), Jack Degner (30:18), Anthony Conard (32:27), Shyam Devasthali (33:22) and Benett Boatright (35:31).
No. 17 Aquinas won the men's race and No. 18 St. Francis was second.
Four Bees broke the 25-minute mark behind Knoche in the women's run.
Lexi Minard was 36th in 24:04. Adeline Smith (48th) and Allison Hein (49th) finished within two seconds of each other in 24:28 and 24:30, respectively. Rileigh Fortune was 59th in 24:51.
Also running for the St. Ambrose women were Alexis Havercamp (25:14), Lauren Johnson (25:30), Carlie Woolm (26:38) and Eileen Elenteny (31:12).
Lewis won the women's championship with No. 22 Aquinas, No. 21 Mount Mercy and No. 11 St. Francis rounding out the top four.
SAU will host the Fighting Bee Invitational at Crow Creek Park in Bettendorf, Iowa, next Saturday.
