
St. Ambrose fares well at Missouri Valley Invite
Mick Chagnon finished eighth to lead St. Ambrose at the Missouri Valley Invitational in Marshall, Mo., Friday and Saturday.
Wrestling at 125 pounds, Chagnon, who received a first-round bye, earned a 16-0 tech fall in 6:50 in the second round. After getting knocked into the consolation bracket, Chagnon responded with three straight wins. He eked out a 16-13 decision in sudden victory before posting a 13-2 major decision. A forfeit was his final victory before Chagnon settled for eighth place.
Three Bees each collected three wins in their respective brackets.
Guiseppe Guerra pinned an opponent in 3:28 among his three wins at 141 pounds. He also prevailed 11-10 and claimed a medical forfeit before his run ended. Jayden Terronez needed just 1:22 to earn a pinfall win in the 165-pound bracket. He also won a 12-1 major decision and a 12-10 decision. Anthony Sartori won three bouts in a row at 174 pounds. He matched Terronez with a win via pin in 1:22. He also earned a 13-5 major decision and advanced by a forfeit.
Three other SAU grapplers earned two wins apiece.
Josh Zeman garnered a 12-6 decision and a 10-2 major decision at 149 pounds. Diego Machado also picked up a major decision (12-4) and earned a 4-2 victory at 157 pounds. Heavyweight Tyler Casey got a first-period pin at the 2:57 mark before also winning by a 7-3 score.
Colin O'Grady also won a match for St. Ambrose. He pinned his opponent in 6:18 in the 184-pound draw.
Riece Graham (125 pounds), Tate O'Shea (149 pounds), Slade Dias (157 pounds) also competed for St. Ambrose.
As a team, SAU finished 25th.
The Bees will compete in the Missouri Valley Open next Saturday.
