
Season continues at Conner Oppenheim Open
St. Ambrose continued its season at the Conner Oppenheim Open hosted by Doane in Crete, Neb., Saturday.
Diego Machado and Anthony Sartori each won a pair of matches in the open division.
Machado, ranked No. 24 in the country, picked up an 8-4 decision to reach the quarterfinals of the 157-pound bracket. After a tight 2-0 loss, he pinned his first opponent on the consolation side in 58 seconds. His run ended there. Sartori outlasted his first-round opponent at 174 pounds 11-8. He later earned a 9-4 victory in the consolation bracket.
Guiseppe Guerra grabbed a win by fall in 2:02 at 149 pounds. He also advanced on the consolation side with a win via medical forfeit. Dylan Meiners and Abdullah Razzak also got wins by pin. Meiners' win came in 2:30 at 197 pounds while Razzak needed 2:21 for his victory at heavyweight. Tyler Casey had a 9-3 win at heavyweight.
Also wrestling in the open division was Riece Graham (125 pounds), Mick Chagnon (125 pounds), Isaac Martinez (141 pounds), Georgino Moraga (157 pounds), Jayden Terronez (165 pounds) and Jeremiah Morris (heavyweight).
The Bees had several wrestlers win multiple matches in the amateur division.
Tate O'Shea advanced to the quarterfinals at 149 pounds. He won his first three matches, one was a fall in 4:03 and the others were 10-8 and 8-4 decisions. After a slim 4-3 setback in the quarters, O'Shea rebounded with a 6-2 victory. He advanced to the consolation semifinals.
Josh Zeman also won four matches in the 149-pound bracket. A 5-0 loss sent him to the consolation side, but he rallied with four consecutive victories. They included pins in 1:49 and 3:36 and decisions by scores of 7-5 and 12-9.
Slade Dias picked up three wins. He earned 5-2 and 14-9 decisions and a 12-1 major decision at 165 pounds. Heavyweight Keandre Miles pinned his opening-round opponent in 1:14 and later pinned his opponent in 55 seconds.
Colin O'Grady (1:18) and Kayden White (2:24) each won a match by fall at 184 pounds.
Also competing for the Bees in the amateur brackets were Eli Gonzalez (133 pounds), Ethan Blair (165 pounds) and Hector Izaguirre (197 pounds).
SAU will compete in the NAIA Invite Dec. 20-21.
