Bees crown several placewinners at Luther Hill Invitational

Competing in its first tournament of the year, St. Ambrose had several placewinners at the Luther Hill Invitational in Indianola, Iowa, Saturday.

Isaac Martinez and Georgino Moraga each finished third at his respective weight class in the open division. Martinez dropped his first match at 133 pounds before working his way back through the consolation bracket. In the semifinals, he won by fall in 25 seconds and then took down his opponent in 2:56 in the third-place match. Moraga reached the semifinals at 157 pounds after a 6-3 decision and a 17-1 tech fall. After dropping a tight 4-2 decision in the semifinals, he earned 11-5 and 7-5 decisions to place third.

Abdullah Razzak won a pair of matches at heavyweight. He picked up a 4-1 decision in his first-round bout and later secured fifth place with a 5-3 victory. Riece Graham outlasted his first-round opponent 13-11 on his way to finishing sixth at 125 pounds. Ethan Blair also finished sixth at 165 pounds.

Reese Finch made a big run in the freshman/sophomore division at 149 pounds. After pinning his first opponent in 2:09, Finch was sent to the consolation bracket. He recovered by winning five straight matches. It started with an 8-3 decision before he won by fall in 4:22. He outscored his next opponent 20-17 and a medical forfeit got Finch through to the consolation semifinals. There, he earned a 4-1 decision in sudden victory. His run ended in the third-place match.

AJ Trendle stuck his opponent in 1:46 at 125 pounds, and Jaxson Holec claimed an 11-8 decision at 157 pounds.

Jacob Alexander (133 pounds), Josh Zeman (149 pounds), Dio Ballas (165 pounds) and Kayden White (174 pounds) also competed in the freshman/sophomore division for St. Ambrose.

SAU will host Cornell Tuesday night.
