SAU picks up important road win at Trinity Christian

St. Ambrose took care of business Tuesday night, picking up a 25-17, 25-18, 25-17 win at Trinity Christian.

The victory sets up what could be an important match next Tuesday when the Bees visit Olivet Nazarene in SAU's regular-season finale. St. Ambrose (14-14, 7-4 CCAC) and ONU (12-11, 6-3 CCAC) are currently battling for second place in the CCAC standings.

The Bees gave themselves a chance to finish second and the right to host a CCAC Tournament semifinal by controlling the match against the Trolls.

SAU finished with 27 kills and a .262 hitting percentage while TCC finished with 20 kills and 21 errors for a -.014 mark.

St. Ambrose built solid leads early in both the first and second sets, but the third set was more of a battle.

Trinity Christian (2-18, 1-8 CCAC) used a three-point run to pull even at 15-15 in the third. But a Troll serving error sparked a Bee run. Behind the serving of Pedro Zang, who collected a pair of aces during the spurt, SAU won a total of six straight points. Anthony Anderson and Michael Bos added kills that ultimately helped St. Ambrose grab a 21-15 lead.

TCC got two points back, but two late kills from Bos helped close out the match.

Bos did most of the damage, finishing with 10 kills. Zang and Kam Dixon each put down six.

Anderson, who also recorded three kills, led the team with 21 assists and three aces. Zang also finished with three aces.

Ethan Karban (six) and Dixon (five) led the way in digs. Anderson, Zang and Kainalu Ka'ahanui each came up with three digs.

Charlie Flynn and Cael Anderson had a kill apiece.

Tuesday's match at Olivet Nazarene is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
