SAU continues conference win streak

St. Ambrose rolled over Judson yesterday evening in a 3-1 conference win over the Eagles in Linder Fitness Center. After last night's effort, St. Ambrose has now won three conference matches in a row to be 3-0 in CCAC conference play.

The Bees dropped the opening set 23-25 and then rallied to win the final three sets 25-19, 26-24, and 25-20.

St. Ambrose and Judson each competed closely throughout the opening set until the Bees gained a four-point lead at 16-12. That lead even grew to 18-13. Then, the Eagles started a four-point stretch which forced a SAU timeout. Even after the short break, JU continued the offensive pressure, but the Bees answered back for only a short time.

SAU held the 21-19 lead, and then came the offensive power of the Eagles. They rallied off four more points to lead by two scores. This forced another St. Ambrose timeout.

A kill by Cael Anderson put the Bees within a point, but the Eagles finished the set off 25-23.

Over the span of the second set, the Bees gradually grew their lead to 18-12. But, Judson never went away easily until Pedro Zang stepped up for the Bees with two consecutive kills. Then, it was kills from Charlie Flynn and Michael Bos for a Bees win 25-19. This tied the game for the Bees and the Eagles at one set each. St. Ambrose swung for an impressive 18 kills and a .615 hitting percentage as a team this set.

The third set was a battle for both squads, but the Bees came away with the 26-24 set victory after continuous back-and-forth play. Three final attacking errors from the Eagles helped the Bees win the set 26-24 and take control of the match.

The final set was all St. Ambrose throughout. Once the Bees had the 2-1 lead, they never trailed the rest of the way as they commanded a 25-20 win in the set to win the contest 3-1.

With this win, the Bees up their record to 10-8 overall.

Zang registered a team-high 19 kills as Kam Dixon put down 12 kills. Bos followed with nine while Flynn added in eight. Anthony Anderson added in five kills on five total attempts.

A. Anderson ran the offense as he collected 40 assists.

Ethan Karban led the Bees with 10 digs. Zang and Anderson each added in nine digs.

C. Anderson accounted for three solo blocks. Bos denied the Eagles twice.

Next up, the Bees take on Calumet Thursday in Whiting, Ind. The first serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST at Rittenmeyer Center.
