
SAU drops match with St. Mary-Woods and defeats Culver-Stockton in C-SC Tri-Match
St. Ambrose split the day at Culver-Stockton's Tri-Match in Canton, Mo. The Bees dropped their first match to St. Mary-Woods (0-3) and defeated Culver-Stockton (3-2) for the third time this season. These results move the Bees to 7-6 overall.
The Bees struggled with hitting errors throughout the match as St. Mary-Woods excelled in the final sets with a .520 and .667 kill percentage. In the first and third set, SAU had more errors than kills.
SAU played St. Mary-Woods close in the opening set, almost forcing extra points. Overall, the Bees dropped the match 25-23, 25-19, and 25-14.
In the first match of the day for the Bees, Kam Dixon led the way for the Bees with seven kills while Charlie Flynn added in six kills. Kainalu Ka'ahanui registered in four kills.
Anthony Anderson ran the offense with 16 assists. Ethan Karban dominated defensively with nine digs. Ka'ahanui collected six digs for St. Ambrose.
St. Ambrose faced and beat Culver-Stockton for the third time this season. The Bees and Wildcats played until the end as SAU won 25-21, 16-25, 20-25, 25-12, and 20-18.
SAU won the decisive first set and then their offense slowed as the Wildcats defeated the Bees over the next two sets. St. Ambrose blew out the Wildcats in the fourth set to force the final fifth set.
Four Bees collected double-digit kill numbers for St. Ambrose. Dixon (14), Michael Bos (11), Flynn (10), and Pedro Zang (10) collected those numbers for the Bees. A. Anderson joined the attackers and put down eight kills of his own. Zander Larson registered five put downs.
A. Anderson collected a season-high 42 assists while Felipe Prieto added 10 assists.
Karban picked up a season-high 21 digs for St. Ambrose. Dixon collected eight assists while Ka'ahanui added seven digs. A. Anderson registered six assists.
Dixon contributed to 15 Bee points as Flynn and Zang contributed to 14.
St. Ambrose will look to carry this momentum into next week as the Bees host cross-town rival Augustana in Lee Lohman Arena. The first serve is slated for 7 p.m. Tues. evening.
