Service errors fault St. Ambrose

St. Ambrose finished the night in Cedar Rapids with 21 service errors throughout the three-set loss to Mount Mercy. Despite having owned the lead early on in the first set, the Bees were swept in straight sets 22-25, 18-25, and 20-25.

SAU led the majority of the way to open the match, but the Mustangs were right on their heels.

The largest lead for St. Ambrose came after two Mustang service errors and a kill by Pedro Zang. That series forced MMU into a timeout.

The Bees still rolled in their offensive rhythm as Zang, Charlie Flynn, and Cael Anderson put down a block after the timeout to cap off the four-point lead at 17-13.

Mount Mercy found their footing and tied the set at 21 all. Then, the Mustangs rallied for the final four-of-five points scored in the set to take set one 25-22.

After the Bees and Mustangs were tied at four points each, St. Ambrose could never catch Mount Mercy in the second set eventually losing 18-25. The Bees had more hitting errors, seven, than kills in this set as they only accumulated six kills as a team.

Put downs by Zang and Michael Bos started what would be the final set for the Bees. Kam Dixon joined in for SAU, but it was too late as Mount Mercy had already extended their lead to five. It was back and forth the rest of the way. SAU never found a way to stop the offensive power of the Mustangs in the 20-25 final set loss.

This loss drops the Bees to 2-3 overall.

For the Bees, Zang produced a team-high 12 kills. Bos followed behind with seven put downs on 10 attempts. C. Andreson and Dixon added four kills each. Flynn tacked on three kills for SAU.

Anthony Anderson and Felipe Prieto shared offensive duties with 13 and 12 assists respectively.

Defensively, C. Anderson picked up a team-high eight digs. Kainalu Ka'ahanui registered six pickups. Rounding out the defense for the Bees was Zang, A. Anderson, and Dixon with four digs apiece.

Flynn and C. Anderson both connected on two blocks.

SAU only has a short turn around before another weekend of multi-match days. The Bees will play two matches each day in St. Louis, Mo. on Fri. and Sat. SAU will see new opponents in No. 11 Missouri Baptist, Graceland, and UHSP while facing Culver-Stockton for a second time this season.
